Dia de los Muertos Outreach

Rancho Baptist Church Outreach Team

Festival participants came dressed up
A team of 17 people, from Rancho Baptist Church, took 400 CDs and 50 DVDs of the Gospel message in Spanish to the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Festival in Riverside, California.  Dia de los Muertos is a Latin festival celebrating and inviting back the spirits of those who have died.  What a perfect place to share the Gospel and the truth about life after death.  For many on the team this was their first experience doing an outreach such as this, yet they stepped out of their comfort zone and trusted the Lord to use them.  The team gave out all 400 CDs and 50 DVDs in less than 1 1/2 hours!  Many had further conversations with individuals about their beliefs and about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  As many here believed that you are saved by works or being a "good" person, the Bible clearly teaches that we are saved by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ alone!  None of us are "good" enough to get to heaven on our own.  Please pray for all who received CDs, DVDs, and tracts.  Pray that the Lord reveals Himself in big ways.

Radical Senders Radical Goers

We are blessed by our pastors and church family.  There has never been a Sunday when I've left church feeling like I've wasted my time.  When you make the effort to go, and then have a heart ready to learn, the Lord never disappoints!

This morning, Pastor Matt shared how there should be two categories of believers, radical senders, and radical goers.  A radical sender sacrifices some of the luxuries of life to financially and prayerfully support those committed to missions and spreading the Gospel.  A radical goer makes themselves available to the will of the Lord.  They are ready to go wherever, whenever, and do whatever the Lord desires.

Emil and I have committed our lives to go wherever the Lord wants us to go.  Right now, that is right here in Temecula, at Global Recordings Network, working to reach unbelievers around the globe.  We want to thank all of you, the radical senders, who have committed to supporting us financially and/ or prayerfully.  The Lord may have called us to go, but we couldn't go without a team of senders.  We love our ministry team.  Thank you all!

What is a Refugee?

In 2012, nearly 60,000 people were admitted into the United States as refugees.  A refugee is defined as a person who is unable or unwilling to return to his or her country because of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, member in a particular social group, or political opinion.  There are hundreds of thousands of people living here in the United States as refugees and we want to reach them with the Word of God.
While in Utah, on a mission trip to witness to the Mormons, Emil and I had the opportunity to meet with Ed and Sherry, who work with Karen refugees from Burma.  Currently, the highest populations of refugees are coming to the US from Burma, Bhutan, Iraq, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Haiti and Nepal.  The military is trying to wipe out any people groups that are of varying ethnicities.  The Karen people are just one of these groups.  These people have fled their country for safety and a future for their families.  Ed and Sherry, along with many others, are helping these individuals with their daily needs in life, while sharing about salvation through Jesus Christ.  We were able to give them a box of CDs, with audio recordings of Bible stories and the Gospel message, in several of the dialects of these people.

For GRN (Global Recordings Network), this is an exciting connection.  GRN has over 59 recordings in Karen dialects!  Giving these people the message of salvation in their heart language is a powerful tool!  This is just one of the refugee groups in Logan, Utah.  Across the US there are so many more.  Please pray for these connections and the possibilities for foreign missions right here on US soil.  Our God is mighty and all powerful, so pray that we can put the Gospel message into the hands of every refugee in their heart language!

Have You Heard About Global Recordings Network?

"Have you heard about Global Recordings Network?"  We must have repeated that line hundreds of times over the course of the conference.  "We make audio recordings of Bible stories.  They are free to download and copy right off the internet.  We have over 6000 languages."  It's at that point that people look at you a bit stunned.
How could this resource have been around for the past 74 years and yet, they are just hearing of it now.

The Missio Nexus Mission Leaders's Conference was my first for promoting GRN, but Emil has had the privilege of attending numerous over the past two years.  It was exciting to have the opportunity to give individuals, organizations and churches a tool and ideas to reach the lost in their heart language.  They were excited to think of the possibilities in their communities and around the globe.  I actually had several people thank us for being there!

I learned so much during this conference.  I was encouraged to meet and learn about other churches and organizations actively reaching the world for Christ.  Having Emil and Dale Rickards there enabled me to learn a lot more about GRN as well.  But best of all, we made connections with others that we pray will further the spread of the Gospel.  Thanks to all who were praying!  Praise the Lord!

Failure vs. Rejection

At the Missio Nexus Mission Leader's Conference, Emil and I had the opportunity to hear Francis Chan (Author of Crazy Love) speak.  His message was simple, yet convicting...

"Rejection does not mean failure.  Failure is when we refuse to be rejected!"

Failure is when we no longer stand for the Gospel and what it says... both repentance and redemption.
Failure is when we try to repackage the Gospel to make it more palatable for the listener.  When we lead people to believe that they can go on living their life, and just add Jesus to it.  Failure is not caring enough about others to share the Gospel with them. Failure is not standing up for the Gospel!  And when you do stand up for the Gospel, remember, you just might be rejected... but you definitely won't be a failure.

What Arrows are in Your Quiver?

Imagine you have a quiver strapped to your back everyday, throughout your lifetime.  The arrows that fill your quiver are the skills, experiences and knowledge the Lord has allowed you to learn or be a part of over time.  With each new experience or each newly acquired skill He adds a new arrow to your quiver... ready to be used when He calls.

What arrows do you have in your quiver?  Have you ever found yourself wondering why the Lord had you learn a skill you seem to not need?  Why did you have to take that class in school?  Why did you have that painful experience?  Maybe it is because the Lord is filling your quiver... preparing you for an opportunity He has already prepared for you in the future.  A time may be coming when He is going to ask you to take that arrow, aim and shoot.  Are you going to be ready?  Are you going to be willing?  Will you be obedient to use the arrow He has given you?

The Ecuador team is back now and Chet Williams, the missionary we went to work alongside, shared this idea of arrows in your quiver while we were there.  I must say that one of the greatest highlights of my experience there was watching our team use the arrows in their quiver to serve others, and in turn, serve the Lord.  I saw the Lord working in each individual, growing them, stretching them, asking them to step out and then.... I saw many take the challenge and shoot their arrow.

As you go throughout your day, be careful to notice when the Lord is calling you to use one of the arrows He has already placed in your quiver.  You will surely be blessed if you do!

We Are On Our Way!

We are sporting our green shirts.

Over 40 bags have been successfully checked in without a single problem... Including the generator. It was truly a miracle.

The team did their skit in the middle of the terminal as hundreds of people watched in silence while videoing and smiling at the message being presented. Afterwards Pastor Shane shared and a few people came over to talk to the group and give us encouragement.  Praise The Lord!!!!

Now we are just waiting to board the plane. As you can see the fun has already begun.   Thank you for your prayers.

Please be praying from 9:30-10:30am (usa time) Monday.  This will be the time we begin our journey through customs in Ecuador.

Pray for Ecuador

I (Stacy) will be leaving Sunday, July 21 for a two week trip to Ecuador.  I will be going with three other adults and 19 high school and college students.  We will be there to support the ministry of Chet and Katie Williams, with Commission to Every Nation, doing construction work in Shell and then putting on a Christian family camp on the beach in Same (the name of the town).

In addition to this we will have an opportunity to meet up with Gustavo and Ines Calixto, with Global Recordings Network, and take them much needed equipment and materials.

We do not take this experience lightly.  The Lord has called us and Satan would like nothing better than to destroy the ministry.  We desperately need people to commit to praying daily for our team.

Please pray...

     1.  That all equipment, materials and luggage arrives, nothing is stolen, and it is all given the green light by customs.

     2.  That the Lord would prepare our hearts for what He wants to teach us.

     3.  That the Lord would prepare the hearts of the lost and lives are changed.

     4.   For team unity.

     5.  Safety and Health

Working Together for God's Glory

Pastor Matt and Steve had quite a lengthy and interesting conversation with these Jews.
Joe worked quickly to keep up with our duplicating needs.

A great story ...

Although the primary focus of the DC team was handing out CDs, we had a handful of really good conversations where we were able to share the Gospel.

Three guys came to the booth and said they spoke Spanish. I asked if they happened to speak a dialect and they did. I played the dialect on my phone to ensure I had the right one and then told them it would take about 5 minutes to make them copies. They chose to wait in the shade of the next tent which was run by two ladies sharing the Gospel through the colors on a salvation bracelet. Maribelle Coleman went to help translate into Spanish. While they waited for their CD they heard the Gospel and then prayed to receive Christ. I then handed them the Gospel in their dialect which they will be able to listen to and share with others. The Lord really does work in mysterious ways!

The Final Numbers Are In

A team of 35
8 days on the National Mall in DC
Over 4000 CDs given out
In 110 different languages
And 2500 copies of the Jesus Film given

Thank you to each of you who allowed The Lord to use you to bring the Words of Life to the nations!
Let's pray that lives are changed because His Word does not return void.

God's Plan Can Not Be Stopped

There is a folk life festival close to us that is highlighting language groups that are at risk of dying out. Today a few of us went there and worked to find out exactly what language each of these people spoke and if we had the recording. I had a few of these people, that were flown in to represent these people groups, listen to the language on my phone. They smiled as they listened. I had one of the languages already burned on CDs and went to share them. I was told I was not allowed to give them anything. Not a moment later someone came to escort us out and told us we were not permitted to come back.  Oh, how frustrating!  They were trying to promote these languages yet obviously didn't truly care about these groups.

A few hours later these two young people came to our tent and asked for Hawaiian. I played the recoding on my phone to make sure it was the correct language. They recognized the voice as their professor's, who happened to be at the festival of at risk languages (the one we got kicked out of). They were so excited that they took a handful of CDs back to that people group in the festival. Just goes to show that nobody can stop God's plan!

Young at Heart, but Big in Purpose

Our three youngest, Tate, Natalie and Reyna, have been a blessed part of the team. Nobody says no to a free CD from three sweet little girls.

I am certain they have learned more geography this week and more about languages for sure!
They have also been running our craft table where people can come to make a free bracelet. While they are sitting here we get the chance to talk, witness and give out CDs. We've had a few camp groups stop by and their leaders have let us explain the meaning of the salvation bracelet to the entire group!  Praise God!

When God Makes Rain....

It has rained every day since we have been here. The first day it took us off guard a bit as we worked to protect all of our materials and equipment. Now we open the tent, hand out CDs, and when the rain comes we each take a potable pack of CDs and head for a museum. We still get to hand out CDs and are blessed to see some of the sites.

So, when God makes rain...

Meyer Minutes... What's the Latest?

Here’s the latest…

Finances:  As missionaries, we are dependent on the support (donations from individuals and churches) of others to pay our living expenses.  Our current support levels do not cover our monthly budget so we have trusted that the Lord would provide as He sees fit.  Well, He has and we are so grateful.  Emil had the opportunity to work, preparing taxes, for Team Tax in Temecula during tax season.  This not only provided additional funds, but gave him quite a few opportunities to witness to clients!  In addition to this, Emil does real estate and loans which has kept him busy with the current increase in activity in the housing market.  These additional funds will supplement our monthly support!  Thank you to those who have sent business our way.

GRN:  Emil’s role at GRN is Director of Distribution, but he has currently found himself focused on a much bigger need… increasing both staff and awareness of GRN.  There is so much work to be done, yet so few hands to share in the load.  Emil has already attended a handful of mission/pastor conferences around the US (and leaves for another this weekend) where he has worked with Dale Rickards and other staff to increase the awareness of GRN’s staffing opportunities and ministry resources.  If you know of someone looking to join a mission staff or volunteer, give us a call!

Washington, D.C.:  GRN has an annual mission trip to Washington, D.C. to hand out CDs of the Gospel message to those visiting for the 4th of July.  This year we will be leading a team of 35 to plant seeds in the lives of many!  We are so excited for what the Lord has planned for both our team and those we will encounter.

Becca & Tate:  The girls are winding down the school year and are excited because Becca will be moving up to high school and Tate will be moving up to junior high.  We couldn’t be more humbled by the work the Lord has done in the hearts of each of the girls.  They are beautiful both inside and out and it is truly only by the grace of God!  They will both be joining us on the DC trip and are really growing in their walk with the Lord.

Ecuador:  I, Stacy, have the privilege of joining our church’s team on a mission experience in Ecuador this summer.  I, and three other adults, will be leading 19 high school and college aged young people to work with Waorani tribes there.  We will be working near the town of Shell, helping to build a Waorani church then, traveling to the coast to help run a Waorani Christian family camp.  This will be my third trip to Ecuador and I am really blown away that the Lord would allow me this opportunity!

Ok, enough said…. just wanted to give you a picture of our past few months and the ones to come.

We love our ministry team!  Thank you so much to all who are praying, supporting, encouraging, and/or working alongside us in our service to the Lord.  You are all huge blessings in our lives and ministry.

Our True Purpose in Life

Recibe toda la Gloria,
Recibe toda la Honra,
Precioso Hijo de Dios!

Receive all the Glory,
Receive all the Honor
Precious Son of God!

This is a song that we sang daily while in Culiacan.  It's such a beautiful reminder of the purpose of our lives.  It takes a lot of humility to get to the point in your life when you can truly say it is all for His Glory, all for His Honor!  I'm certainly not there yet, but pray, with each new day that I'm one step closer.  I pray the same for all of you, mis hermanas y hermanos (my sisters and brothers); may the Lord receive all the honor and glory from your life!

The True Meaning of Hospitality

Our Dinner Party
The Bible is clear... we are to be hospitable, but I have completely missed the true meaning of "hospitable" until now.
One evening in the camps, my diagnosing partner, Sandra, and I were going door to door finding out what dialects each family spoke and providing them with the message of salvation in their language.
It was about 7:30 and many were eating their evening meal.  What you see in the picture is the cooking area outside of their room.

We approached this couple, who were resting and enjoying their meal.  We introduced ourselves and worked to find out if they spoke another language.  They spoke purely Spanish and we gave them a CD and John and Romans in Spanish.

Then, they invited us for dinner.  We assured them that they should not worry about us, but they insisted; and anyone who has served or visited another culture knows that when offered something, you take it graciously.

The husband went in search for two more buckets for us to sit on and sent his wife to the little camp store (2 doors down) to purchase a soda for us.  They then found a spoon for Sandra and I to share and two cups for the drinks.  They filled a bowl with a little piece of chicken and sauce and offered us a basket of homemade tortillas.
The food was delicious and the fellowship was sweet.  They knew the Lord and were enjoying asking me all about the United States.  We were there for about 15 minutes and excused ourselves to finish the work.

Wow, when I try to be hospitable I often think more about the food I'm going to serve, the condition of my house or the entertainment for the evening more than the people who are coming.
These people had very little when it came to material goods, but they surely understood the meaning of hospitality.  What a humbling experience! Thank you Lord for this lesson.

Only a Hair in the Body of Christ

Team Temecula- Ready to do our part

If you are a believer in Jesus Christ you are part of the church body and the Bible is clear... you are called to do your part.  Just as your body could not function properly without each part (eyes, organs, legs and skin), the body of Christ (the church body) cannot function properly without everyone doing their part.  This week I overheard a member of my team say that he'd be blessed just to be a hair in the body.  A hair! Do you have that same attitude?  I certainly don't and need to pray for that type of humility.
So, what part are you playing in the body?  Are you crippling the body by not doing your part or are you building up the body by exercising what you've been given?
The Bible is clear... read it for yourself (I Corinthians 12).
Ed Young, one of founders of the Culiacan Project shared how it all began.

Mike Garcia Helped lead worship
Mike helped duplicate CDs to take to the camp
Art was the team mechanic fixing all of the vehicles
I was the resident teacher.  Even the kids I didn't teach called me "teacher".

Adventura Misionera

Tomorrow morning our team of about 70 will be traveling to Ceuta (about an hour from Mazatlan) to camp out (in tents).  There are some large work camps out in that direction that the teams will be working in.  We've been asked to bring our sleeping bag and a small bag containing one (yes, one) change of clothes and our toothbrush.  We will be there from Tuesday until Thursday.  Please pray for our protection and that the Lord use us all in mighty ways.  This is what you call an Adventura Misionera (mission adventure)!

This Week's Numbers

Only the Lord knows His children.  When we go to a camp and share the Gospel, only He knows who truly believes.  But each night teams keep careful count of the CDs that go out and in what language.  This information is used for many reasons, but tonight it was simply an encouragement.

This week we had three teams that went to a different camp each night.  Each team takes time with each family to find out what language/dialect they speak and then give them a CD.  It isn't a fast process because we want to be accurate.

This week....
1400 CDs were given in languages/dialects other than Spanish
400 CDs were given in Spanish
55 different languages/dialects were given
and all of this means that about 100 towns will be reached

Each CD is not just one seed planted.  One person does not listen on their own, whole families listen and hear the word.  Many then take it to the rest of their family and then their communities.
One CD is many seeds and many potential souls for the kingdom.

Chucho, the director, said that in the beginning of the project there were very few Christians.  But now, they are finding many who are ready to learn more.
Thank you Lord for this week.  Thank you for what you have already done and what your are about to do this week before us.  Pray for a big harvest his week!

Yes, Missionaries Have Fun Too!

After a great five days in the camps we were given Saturday and Sunday to rest.  Yes, missionaries get to have fun too!  Actually, I have begun to think that if we started sharing the fun parts of being in missions maybe more people would join us.  Don't get me wrong.  The ministry is a huge blessing and a lot of fun too, but having a bit of down time is a blessing also.

On Saturday three vans of people made their way an hour out of Culiacan to an area that has hot springs.  We were able to relax in the hot pools and spend a lot of time laughing and playing and getting to know one another a bit more.

Later that night, after returning back at Camp Esperanza, we were went across the street to a local taco house.  Yum!  Nothing beats a real Mexican taco!

Chucho, Deborah, Josue, Diana, Stacy, Arturo & Miquelito (Mikey)

Sunday morning we joined a team that went to a small church in town.  It was a great time of worship and was a short service (2 1/2 hours).  The pastor spoke about "Listening for the Lord."  When was the last time you listened?  Really, listened?  I know that listening to the Lord at home is often difficult with the craziness of life.   One thing I love about short term trips is the focus on listening to the Lord.  I need to be better about doing the same in everyday life.
The congregation made lunch for us after the service and we were able to fellowship with some really kind people.  Afterwards we went back to the camp to get a bit of work done!  This is where I learn to appreciate my luxuries of home.... like the washing machine!
Thanks so much for all the prayers!  We are definitely feeling them!

The Lord at Work

Before we leave for a camp, we pray.  Before we get into the vans, we pray.  On the way to the camp, we pray.  We pray for protection.  We pray for God's grace with the overseers of the camp so that they will allow us to enter.  We pray for open hearts and receptive people.  We pray that our equipment and vehicle work.  But most of all, we pray for the Holy Spirit's presence.  We pray that the Lord use us and that we would be usable.

Emil always says... the Lord isn't looking for your abilities, but your availability.  We make ourselves available and wait in anticipation for what the Lord would have us do... and there is always something!

Last night, before we arrived, a Christian man living in Camp 15 was praying for his baby that was very sick.  He was crying out to the Lord, "Lord, where are you.  I don't see you here.  Please, show yourself to me."  Following his prayer his young son went out of their cuarto (room) and noticed our projection screen set up and the clowns we had ministering to the children.  He could hear the message of Christ that they were sharing and he said, "Thank you Lord.  You are here!"

The night went well as we each had our specific jobs.  Diana and I went door to door diagnosing what language each person spoke (there were 4 teams doing the same throughout the camp).

Dale was burning CDs in each of the languages we needed.

This woman was overjoyed at receiving the story of Christ in her indigenous language.  She blessed Diana and I with these beautiful tomatoes; a precious gift when you have so little.

At the end of the night our team packed up and climbed back into the van.  Then, the Christian man mentioned earlier came to invite our entire team (of 14) to his room for coffee.  When someone offers you something... you go.  It is important to be in the moment and aware of how the Lord is at work.  We all went back to his room and sat in a group outside the door as they served all of us coffee.  This truly was sacrificial giving.  This man, a believer, wanted to begin to teach others in the camp about Christ and a godly life.  A few years ago he had received a CD of the Gospel message in his language.  That was the seed and now he's ready to grow.   What an encouragement to the teams to hear his story and see the fruit of their labor.  We supplied him with materials and then prayed for the healing of his sick baby and an anointing on his life in this camp.

What a blessed night.  Since I've been here I've felt a bit out of my comfort zone at times, but if I didn't take one step forward each moment (regardless of my feelings) I surely would miss out on these amazing blessings.  Thank you Lord for allowing me this privilege.

Riddle

What do you get when you....

... cut the top off of a bag of Spicy Cheese Curls
and add
... cucumber
... hot dog (I think)
... tomato
... and hot sauce

Ok, I know the mouths of all of my Mexican friends are salivating already.

It's a Mexican snack... and yes, I ate it (ok, only some of it).

Before the Camps

The Culiacan Project ministers to the people who are working in the camps picking vegetables.  Because of this our teams do not go out to the camps until 3:30 in the afternoon when the people begin returning home from work.  Before we go out our team of 45 (this week) has an entire camp and ministry to maintain and each of us has specific jobs during the day.  You might clean the bathrooms, prepare the meals or prepare the materials for each night.  My job, while here at Camp Esperanza, is to school Deborah and Josue (the children of the Directors, Chucho and Diana Loyo).

Dale has been hard at work as well.  Each morning he spends time helping his team prepare for the night's work.  That includes organizing equipment, burning CDs and washing the vans.  He is also on the team that prepares lunch each day.  I'm sure he's learning a lot of new words that are going to come in handy in the kitchen (get ready Valerie).

It is a privilege to be used by the Lord in all things... the big and the small.  Thank you Lord for using us!

Culiacan Project Begins

Tonight was our first night out in the camps.  There are three teams this week.  Our team has 13 people and tonight we went to a fairly small camp (just a few hundred people).  I was on a diagnosing team with Lydia and Adrian (above) and our job was to go room to room finding out where each family is from and what language they speak.  We then gave them a CD of Bible stories in their language.  Because there were not a lot of people living in this camp we were able to spend more time with each person... and several on our route prayed to receive Christ.  God is awesome always!

My heart broke while in this particular camp.  When we first arrived many of the parents were not home from work and I couldn't believe the number of young children (under the age of 8) that were caring (all day) for several siblings, younger than themselves.  As we were making our rounds we walked up to a hammock that appeared to have a crying baby wrapped up under a blanket.  I looked around and there was no one in sight so I unwrapped the baby and consoled him.  I sat by the hammock for about 15 minutes feeding him his bottle and rocking him... and all the while no one came to check on him.  Soon after, a little girl came with a baby and a two year old.  This little girl (aged 8) was caring for the baby above, another baby and a two year old.  We had a team playing with the kids and the girl had been off wanting to be involved, yet here she was... torn between caring for her siblings and being a child.  I cried.  It broke my heart to think of the desperation these parents have to be at to leave your children behind to fend for themselves.  Pray for these children, their protection and their salvation.  They need a hope that only the Lord can provide! And kiss your kids and those who care for them, because you have no idea how good we've got it!

Culiacan Project 2013

I'm (Stacy) off for two weeks to the 2013 Culiacan Project (Jan. 27-Feb.10)!  I am asking for prayer warriors to keep our team and the entire project in your prayers.  For four weeks, every night (Mon-Fri), teams go into migrant work camps sharing the message of salvation with hundreds of people from all over Mexico.  We give out recordings of Bible stories in over 120 languages (yes, Mexico has about 300 languages/dialects) and hundreds of people are saved.  It is like no other mission experience I've ever had and I am beyond humbled and privileged to be a part.  Over the next two weeks I will update my blog so that you might share in my experience.   Sign-up to receive updates on the right of my blog page.

Please Pray:
For our spiritual and physical safety
Open hearts and saved lives
For my family who has a busy schedule while I'm away

"The Lord will keep you from all harm.  He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever more." Psalm 121:7-8
